Reporting to the Director of Education Programs, the Children’s Education Program Manager is part of an eight-person staff team that coordinates, develops, manages and evaluates New York Cares’ volunteer education programs.
This position manages 50 to 60 ongoing volunteer programs that serve children and teens in transitional housing facilities, public schools and community centers. The manager’s portfolio focuses on reading, writing and career exploration. The manager is expected to expand programming by identifying new project sites and developing new program models.
Responsibilities:
Planning and implementing well organized and high quality volunteer service programs
Cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with partner agencies
Developing curricula for new and existing education programs
Recruiting, supporting and training volunteers and team leaders
Managing multiple project budgets and supplies
Conducting community outreach to identify new partner agencies for specific program areas
Evaluating programs by attending volunteer projects, collecting feedback and tracking data
Providing development opportunities for volunteers and community partners
Conceiving, planning and staffing one-time volunteer projects for corporate volunteer groups
Assisting, as necessary, with organizatioin-wide initiatives such as Annual Events and development activities
New York Cares volunteer projects, trainings, and events take place before and after work and on weekends, requiring the Program Manager to work several evenings per month and multiple weekend days a year.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Two years work experience in non-profit management and/or education
Interest and experience in children's literacy, middle school programming and curriculum development
Demonstrated commitment to community service and volunteerism
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong administrative and organizational skills, including an ability to manage and multi-task many projects
Strong problem solving skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
Excellent written and oral communications skills

New York Cares is seeking a creative, flexible designer with expertise in managing the production process. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director, the Design and Production Manager designs, manages, art directs and produces communication materials that clearly speak to New York Cares’ targeted audiences, maintains the organization’s brand, stays within predetermined budgets and meets designated deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Manages the organization’s print communication needs, including the design, production, competitive bid process, print supervision and fulfillment for a variety of collateral. These include, but are not limited to: the annual report, the annual program guide, print ad campaigns, brochures, posters, invitations, event programs, signage, banners and premiums
Designs and executes citywide public service campaigns, including outdoor advertising that is featured on MTA platforms, subways, phone kiosks etc.
Designs and implements graphic elements for the organization’s website, email campaigns and other digital communications
Negotiates costs with vendors for printing, mailings and premiums and ensures timely delivery of quality materials within agreed budgets

Qualifications:

Expert in In-Design, Photoshop and Illustrator. Knowledge of Flash and video editing a plus
Copy editing experience preferred

Experience working with HTML, DHTML, Javascript and CSS a plus (not required)

The Marketing and Communications Department produces a diverse range of materials that are essential to the organization's outreach, fundraising and image. Reporting to the Digital Marketing Manager, the New Media Intern will assist in efforts to monitor and maintain the New York Cares brand on the web, including social networking initiatives, research into digital media trends and strategies, the maintenance of our website, and the production of a monthly online traffic report.
Responsibilities:
Posting new features and interactive content to our social media sites, as well as monitoring the organization's interactions with supporters and responding to their posts
Tracking mentions of New York Cares on the web through Google Alerts and other programs
Collecting and analyzing metrics from social media and email campaigns
Researching new media trends and assisting with research for an upcoming website redesign
Updating html code for the website and online materials such as newsletters and custom Facebook content
Assisting in the production of online videos promoting our programs and events
Soliciting donated space from online and digital advertising vendors
Qualifications:
Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong eye for grammer
Excellent organizational and administrative skills with an eye for detail
Working knowledge of Dreamweaver or equivalent program with basic html and CSS skills
Working knowledge of iMovie, Final Cut, or similar video editing software
